Our full time Kindergarten program is based on the "Land of the Letter People" curriculum designed and distributed by Abrams & Company Publishing (www.abramsandcompany.com) who "believes that every child should have the opportunity to become a successful learner." Their philosophy is basic:
- Educational materials can be fun as well as stimulating to the intellectual, emotional and social development of children.
- Effective educational materials must be research based and classroom tested.
- Educational materials need to be appealing.
- Teachers and families must serve as partners with the child in developing the child's physical, intellectual, emotional, and social potentials.
- Each child contributes a unique family and cultural background to the classroom experience.
The program was chosen for their enthusiasm for literacy. They "want children to see that there are many reasons to read: enjoyment, learning something new, following a recipe, finding out how to complete a project, sharing knowledge with others, and so on... The child hears new vocabulary, learns how to say different words, begins to make the connection between print and spoken words, watches how to hold a book right-side up and carefully turn pages from beginning to end. Most importantly, children who are read to at an early age understand that reading is special. They want to do it, too!"
To ensure a well rounded program we also introduce Math, Science and Social Studies.
